American Karate Kai is a traditional Okinawan karate school that stresses the value of respect, loyalty and integrity. We are Shorin Ryu, Kobayashi style founded by Master Chosin Chibana. We also teach traditional karate weapons such as, staff(bo), short swords (sai), sickles (kama) and nunchaku's.

We also teach grappling, throwing and mat work to enhance the overall ability of our students. Self defense is also given special emphasis, with classes provided once a week for all who are interested, especially women.

We recommend age 6 as a good age to start karate. However, students younger than 7 years old may need extra attention depending on how well they can focus and how passionate they are to learn the art of karate. We have seen success with a few kids younger than 6 years old, but typically younger children will not have the attention span required.
It is not necessary to purchase a uniform when you start class but you should plan on wearing comfortable, loose clothing while you try out the class. It is recommended that you purchase a uniform within the first 2 months if you have decided you would like to continue training.
Shorin is the Okinawan pronunciation of Shaolin and is believed to be the oldest form of karate. Shorin-Ryu is a form of karate which includes kata (forms to practice self-defense), kumite (sparring/fighting), grappling, kobudo (weapons), and use of pressure points in self-defense.
